¡Ay Corazon! Art about love & longing rooted in Latin American traditions

Chilean-Canadian artist Daniela Smith-Fernandez is presenting her newest work at a semi-private event at Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. These pieces explore the place that the desire for romantic love plays in the heart and imagination. Firmly rooted in Latin American artistic traditions, she plays with a range of textiles and sculptures to create a place where it is safe to explore deep feelings of longing and desire.

The objective is to generate feedback about the work and try seeing how it works to present pieces in an atypical environment. The event is being held in a venue with theatrical lighting and a cash bar so as to accentuate the glittering elements and themes in the work. It will be brought to life with a trilingual soundtrack. At 7:00 and 9:00 the artist will give a short artist talk and take questions and feedback in English, Spanish or French. Otherwise, people are encouraged to come and go as they choose.

Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in a vibrant display of creativity and passion.

Frequently asked questions

Can I invite people?

Sure! I'd love to have more people come. Just make sure that they get a ticket so I can keep track of numbers. Also, please make sure that they are the kind of awesome people you think would appreciate this event.

Will there be food and drinks?

There is a cash bar with a delightful bartender who would deeply appreciate your tips. It has a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options including local beers, wines, cocktails, mocktails, pop and juices. For food, Subway and Seine River cafe are across the street.

I don't speak Spanish/French. Will I still appreciate it?

I will have translations of all texts into Spanish, English and French. This is part of trying to create a multilingual world that doesn't just cater to anglophones. Unilingualism is curable!

Why a Saturday night in a bar/theatre/music venue?

A lot of this show was inspired or born in places just like this, creative places late at night where intimacy is born. Also, I have an addiction to sequins and mirrors, which look better in low light.
